Friday Finds: 8.18.17

Posted August 18, 2017 by Stephanie

Happy Friday friends! Mike and I are gearing up for the eclipse – we booked a campsite on the path of totality last year and I recently ordered some eclipse glasses, so we are ready to rock. It’s my first ever total eclipse and excited is an understatement. I’ve been having the best summer with our crazy road trip adventures and this is the icing on the cake. Are you guys planning on seeing the eclipse? It’s one of the few times you’ll be able to see a total eclipse from North America, so I hope you guys catch a peek of it.

In the meantime, while you’re waiting for the eclipse to happen, here are some distracting reads :)

Webstuff:

  1. In case you need eclipse info. And what you can expect to see where you live (just pop in your zip code).
  2. What are your thoughts on restaurants designed with Instagram in mind?
  3. On Instagram, again: is it ruining food?
  4. The secret life of a city banana.
  5. Cute maps of what music is popular where.
  6. Smartphones and the new generation.
  7. Finding fakes.
  8. The real brands behind TJ brands.
  9. Nodes – is surgery really the answer?
  10. Japanese style cucumber sorting.

Link Love:

  1. I’m down for a salad with hot bacon dressing!
  2. Melon and prosciutto will always have my heart.
  3. Dreamy ice cream cake.
  4. Summer chowders forever.

I’ve got my eyes on you:

  1. Not a super sexy purchase, but I’m looking to get deli containers to replace my mismatched containers that don’t really fit in the cupboard. Looking at these guys because I love how all the sizes use the same lid. Plus they make me feel a little restaurant-y when I do a bunch of prep and label them with masking tape.
  2. Gotta admit, I follow Rupi Kaur (Canada represent!) so I’m looking forward to The Sun and Her Flowers.
  3. Kinda sorta want to rock this thunderbolt pizza hat.

Lately on I am a Food Blog:

  1. I could live off of these xo and Chines sausage noodles.
  2. Super quick and easy spicy seafood tagliatelle for all your dinner needs.
  3. Ramen eggs!
  4. Takeout at home? Yes please! Lo mein noodles to cure your hunger pangs.
  5. Mini blueberry pancakes because mini means you can eat many :)
  6. Super addictive crispy garlic prawns.
  7. Beef satay, in a burger. Trust me, it’s good!
  8. Grilled cheese goodness.

Happy weekend friends – hope it’s full of all the good stuff!
bbq’ed corn and potato salad,
xoxo steph

PS – I’m looking for new food blogs and instagrams to follow. If you guys have any faves, can you leave them below? (:

    Hi Steph,

So, it’s not technically a blog, but I religiously read Felicity Cloake’s “How to Cook the Perfect…” column in The Guardian. I’ve never had one of her recipes fail on me!

I’m also a big fan of Anna Jones, who writes as The Modern Cook in The Guardian, and who has her own website and two absolutely AMAZING cookbooks. Her recipes are super easy and crazy delish!

    Check them out and enjoy!

If you’re curious about the life of doctors who find time in between 80 hr workweeks foodblogging – obsessive cooking disorder (www.obsessivecooking.com) is mine and I also enjoy Foodie Physician.

I cook everything / bake everything but do it extra efficiently since I’ve worked up to 100 hours a week in the hospital ;)

Other foodblog favorites: Pastry Affair, Vanilla Bean Blog, Lady and Pups, My Name is Yeh, Not Without Salt. Of course, I read yours all the time lol.
For fashion: kryz uy (filipina in Manila) and extra petite (chinese in Boston)
