Happy Halloween! This is my last Totoro post for Totoro week and it’s probably the easiest of the bunch: Totoro marshmallows! I love hot chocolate and marshmallows and I was thinking I’d make some homemade Totoro marshmallows, but then the thought of breaking out the stand mixer and doing all the classic marshmallow steps made me tired even before I even began. My mind got to overthinking and I got the brilliant and lazy idea of reshaping store bought marshmallows using a Totoro cookie cutter.

We had a super old bag of mini marshmallows in the pantry so I melted it over low heat, stirring and making sure it didn’t get toasty and brown. When everything was smooth, I spread out the melted mallows in a sheet pan that I previously lightly oiled and dusted with powdered sugar. After about thirty minutes, the mallows were back to their original squishy yet pliable shape.

From there it was just a question of using my trusty Totoro cookie cutter and piping on those iconic Totoro features. These guys looked SO CUTE melted in hot chocolate. We had them while we watched Totoro, of course. The perfect little fall treat :)
