A couple weeks ago I was invited to Dallas to go to a Saveur Magazine/Cadillac event hosted at Oak. Of course, I jumped at the chance. Usually I’m a down-home kind of girl who spends her Friday nights in, so heading out to a glitzy-glamourous event was a bit of a dream. I threw on a little black dress (festooned with cats, of course), my ankle boots (we were in Texas, after all!) and got to ride in a fancy Cadillac and have dinner at the gorgeous Oak restaurant.
This post is in partnership with Cadillac
The evening started out at the Perot, where I got to nibble on yuzu tuna crudo on toast before heading into my ride for the evening, the 2015 Cadillac CTS. I have to admit, while we were riding through the city, I had White Walls running through my head. So appropriate – Dallas’ skyline is one of the most colorful. The city never looked so bright with the smooth ride, sun roof open, and a driver willing to go fast. It was one of those pinch me, is this real moments.
Our destination was Oak, where we ate a delicious dinner. We started with a deconstructed Caesar salad: little gem romaine was dressed with anchovies and slivers of parmesan, cut length-wise, and presented like a wedge salad. The salad was followed by a perfectly medium-rare steak with foie, a potato nest and a poached egg. It was decadent, over-the-top, and exactly what I think of when I think of elevated steak and eggs. I thought the steak was good, but what was even better was the salted caramel dark chocolate tart with banana ice cream. While we were eating, I got a chance to meet Oak’s executive chef, Brian Zenner, who told me a little bit about his inspiration for the menu – he wanted big, classic Texas dishes, with simple yet elegant components. I say he nailed it.
After dinner, I also got to meet Farideh, the director of the test kitchen at Saveur (can you say dream job?!). She was so friendly, I immediately glommed on to her and we had drinks at the gorgeous bar. All-in-all, it was an awesome night. Cadillacs, good food and new friends – what more could a girl want? Thank you Cadillac and Saveur – I had a blast. Texas, y’all haven’t seen the last of me yet!
PS – The first thing I did when I got into Dallas was head out for chicken fried steak. It was everything I dreamed it would be. I’m sad that I only got to eat two while in Dallas. I think I need to do a chicken fried steak tour of Texas…
Looks gorgeous! Fried chicken tour?! Sign me up!
Have a lovely weekend Stephanie!

Sounds like such a fun minivay (minivacay?! miniquicktrip?) I’ve never been to Texas (unless you count DFW aiport) and I’ve never had chicken fried steak! So I’m glad I get to live vicariously through you on both.
Awesome post! Really enjoyed reading this especially since Texas is my home state. And that bar…. gooooooorrrgeee!
Do tell! Where was the chicken fried steak from?
One was from Ellen’s Southern Kitchen and the other was from Stampede 66. Yup! I had two in less than 24 hours ;)
