I love camping. I love campfires, being outside, sleeping in a tent and waking up to see the sunrise. But then again, I also love (LOVE!) glamping because it’s all the best parts of camping without any of the inconvenience. So, it should come as no surprise that Mike and I have ascended to the next level of camping. If backcountry backpacking is sleeping in your car at a rest stop, and car camping is a roadside motel, glamping is a regular hotel. Then, there’s vintage trailer rentals: the highest level of luxury in the strange and wonderful world of the nomadic lifestyle.

I’ve seen cute little trailer parks around on the Instagram but never really thought that we’d stay at one. That is, until we got rained out of our campsite in Colorado – they’re not joking when they say mountain weather is erratic! I did a search for a cute place to stay nearby and it led us to New Mexico, the land of enchantment, green chile cheeseburgers, and the cutest little trailer named Dennis. To be honest, we were headed towards New Mexico anyway because Mike is obsessed with green chile cheeseburgers, so it was a welcome find.

Granted, Mike and I never ever thought we’d be trailer park people. We’re those kind of campers that silently judge those people who bring 17 coolers, a full on bug shield tent for your picnic table, and run their generator at ungodly hours. But, rain is rain and the photos on the website looked so cute that we pushed away our hesitation and drove on over the state line into sunny New Mexico.

I’m so glad we did because staying in Dennis in the Hotel Luna Mystica Vintage Trailer Hotel turned out to be one of the best parts of our roadtrip! He was so cute inside: a little cozy bed with the best mattress we slept on all trip. Windows on all sides, a little kitchenette, a breakfast nook, and, in true luxury, a flushing toilet. Considering camping usually means the worst in toilets, this was the height of excitement for me.

There was a fire pit outside and the “hotel” was super close to Taos where Mike and I did a little green chile cheeseburger hunt. Green chile cheeseburgers are the bomb by the way. I feel like New Mexico food is going to be the death of me because it’s ALL DELICIOUS and I have absolutely no will power.

After our burgers we lit a fire and had some cozy chats while the sky darkened and quieted around us. It was so nice to go inside Dennis when I was feeling a bit chilly. We woke up at two in the morning to pop outside onto the deck to watch the stars. New Mexico has some delicious night skies going on. The milky way was creamy and clear against a midnight navy sky. I saw five shooting stars and we were only out there for 15 minutes.

The next morning, the pink and gold sunrise gently peeked into Dennis’ windows and we hopped in the car to go grab the best green chile breakfast burrito in town. Armed with coffee and the burrito, we had a cozy little breakfast outside on the deck, then inside at the breakfast nook, just so we could experience both. The breakfast burrito was legit the best I’ve ever had.

I loved our little stay in Dennis, the little vintage trailer that could. I don’t know if I can go back to glamping…trailers have air conditioning and running water and everything you might possibly need…including wifi LOL.

Wow! What a spectacular idea! My husband recently discovered a mini conversion van/glamper that is available as a rental. Will definitely consider either option for our next camping trip!
