Friday Links: 11.21.2014

friday links - www.iamafoodblog.com

I’ve been wide awake and bleary eyed at three in the morning every single day since arriving in Tokyo (thanks jet lag!) The trains shut down here at 12 or 1 am, so I’ve had plenty of time to randomly surf the internet for interesting reads. There’s only so many times I can visit the Family Mart (convenience store, like 7-11 but WORLDS better) across the street before the clerk starts looking at me funny, so I’ve been keeping busy. Thankfully this morning I woke up at 6, so I think I’m starting to get back into a non-vampire existence.

Webstuff:

1. I’m in Tokyo right now, but I kinda wish I was in NYC because the Saveur Holiday Social sounds pretty darn awesome. It sounds like the ideal way to get into the spirit of the season: shopping, eating and workshopping (there’s even a workshop by Top Chef Judge and fellow Canadian, Hugh Acheson!).
2. Speaking of getting into the holiday season, I found this song adorkable.
3. But, before we get ahead of ourselves, Thanksgiving hasn’t even happened yet! Check out this tiny epic thanksgiving.
4. In case you need/want to have The United States of Thanksgiving.
5. I really like mechanical pencils. I guess other people do too.
6. Taco emoji. It’s happening.
7. Oh Barbie. This makes me so sad. But it’s also hilarious.
8. Cute conquers all.
9. No grandmas were harmed in the making of this video. LOL!
10. This video of Sam Sifton and Molly making lefse. It makes me want to peel potatoes and start lefse-ing stat!

Link Love:

1. These Thanksgiving stuffing dinner rolls are my everything.
2. And because they sound SO good, the recipe that inspired them.
3. These bacon & scallion grilled cakes. But even more so, those words.
4. I love pie, but maybe you guys are more on the pumpkin spices swirl brownies side of the fence?
5. I need ALL the mashed potatoes.

Happy Friday! Keep warm out there!
xoxo Steph

("I just completely lost track of what you were saying." // "Sometimes I just like to iron, and iron…" "You're a little weird.") Oh my goodness, jet lag is the worst … so glad that you're getting to a normal schedule! That golden period when it's easy to wake up at the crack of dawn is always my fav, haha. Happy weekend, Steph! <3

OK, I was unaware of Hugh Acheson’s Canadian roots! I so associate him with the SE US! You learn something new every day. So glad I read your Friday links late this time. :)

  8. There was a Family Mart in my building when I first moved to Taiwan. I went there every day and bought a cranberry juice and a snickers. Do they do the sweet potatoes on hot rocks at Family Mart in Japan? Best smell!
