Friday Finds 5.22.14

friday finds

May is passing by in a flash! So far it’s been full of birthday cake, barbecues, watermelon and general lounging out in the sun. Mike came up with the brilliant idea of putting astroturf on our balcony and I’ve been hanging out on our “lawn” every day. It’s awesome because if I feel like having a little picnic, the “grass” is right there. I used to think astroturf was super tacky, but the stuff that we found is lush and really looks like grass, albeit really uniform green grass. You can take a peek of it on my Instagram if you’re interested.

This weekend is the first in while without any social obligations and tonight I’m planning on staying in while Mike goes out with his friends. I’m actually looking forward to staying in. I’m going to do the whole single lady dinner and binge watch a bunch of movies – I’ve got Interstellar lined up. Have you guys watched anything else good lately? Chef’s Table on Netflix looks pretty good as well…

Webstuff:
1. New emoji! But still no taco.
2. I really like Anna Kendrick.
3. I would totally eat at this Hello Kitty Restaurant. (More pics here!)
4. There’s some habaloo on the internet about the new Jem and the Holograms trailer. Apparently, it’s going to get better, but I don’t really have any problems with it. I mean, yes, it doesn’t seem like it’s true to the 80s cartoon we all know and love, but it still looks fun to me.
5. I’m all about the hawker stands when I visit Singapore. Hopefully they’re around for a while.
6. This Instagram account (junk food made all fancy) makes me giggle.
7. Do you remember saying that you’ll never stop listening to cool, new music?
8. Do nice guys finish last?
9. I find this map so interesting!
10. Did you read Judy Blume when you were a kid? She’s writing a new book.

Link Love:
1. These baby baked Alaskas are the kind of dessert I dream about.
2. This cake may not be the prettiest, but it looks hella tasty.
3. I could feast on these crispy vegetable pakoras all day, every day.
4. Popcorn, rice crackers, soy sauce, butter, sugar!? Yes please, hurricane popcorn.
5. This cake looks intense in the best way possible.
6. Creamy cool pastry cream, flaky puff pastry and blueberry sauce perfection.
7. I love wontons, especially chilled wontons tossed in spicy peanut sauce.

I’ve got my eyes on you:
1. This watermelon cooler would be so fun to bring on a picnic.
2. It’s been really warming up and our place doesn’t have air conditioning, something that does not work when I’m baking or braising. Mike did some research and found this fan. So far I’ve been loving it – it really does move all the air in the room.

Hope your weekend is awesome!

love & potatoes,
xoxo Steph

  1. May or may not have watched all the “Good Eats” on Netflix in a weekend. I also watch too many “Cupcake Wars,” ofc muting my computer as soon as the host talks. Love Anna Kendrick too- she didn’t seem as prominent a character in “Pitch Perfect 2,” but enjoyed it all the same.

Judy blume is writing a BOOK?! I still blush when I think about her Young adult books that I read in 6th grade heehee

    (1) Is there still no cheese emoji?!? The ep with Niki Nakayama made me all kinds of emotional and I really want to discuss if you watch it.
