I’m not the biggest indulger of alcoholic drinks, but when summertime hits, all I want is to do sit on a sun-drenched patio with a deliciously iced boozy drink in hand. There are couple of go-tos I have: mojitos, chū-hais, and most definitely sangria. How can you go wrong with wine, fruit, a bit of sugar, and a touch of brandy or rum? I love a good classic sangria, but I love mixing it up even more.
This isn’t your classic sort of sangria. First off, it’s made with prosecco, instead of the classic red or even white wine. It doesn’t have brandy or rum in it. So I guess the only thing making it sort of sangria-y, is the fruit and the cinnamon. Because, yes, sangria needs cinnamon to be sangria. Don’t discount it – it adds a bit of warming spice, but doesn’t overpower. It’s the secret to a good sangria and you’ll drink more and more to figure out what that hint of familiarness is. I also threw in a couple of whole star anise for a bit more warmth, but you can definitely skip out on them if you don’t have any on hand. Don’t skip out on the cinnamon sticks though!
I have to tell you, this is a definitely panty dropper (heehee!). It’s the kind of thing you can drink a LOT of without realizing you’re doing so. And when you finish off the pitcher, you can snack on the boozy fruit. Win, win, win!
Easy Sparkling Sangria Recipe
serves 3-4
prep time: 10 minutes
active time: 5 minutes
total time: 15 minutes
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water, hot
- 2 cups prosecco
- 3 cups sparkling citrus juice
- 1 cup Aperol
- 2-3 sticks cinnamon
- 1-2 whole star anise
- 3 cups assorted stone fruit, sliced
Stir the sugar into the hot water to dissolve. Set aside to cool while cutting up the fruit. You can use whatever fruit you happen to have in your fridge or sitting on your countertop. Here I used cherries, oranges, peaches and plums. When all your fruit is cut up, mix all the ingredients in a large pitcher. Place in the fridge and enjoy chilled over ice.
Gimme all the boozy fruit. This looks like the best kind of summer sangria, especially with all those cherries!! :D
This definitely isn’t like any sangria I’ve ever had before but it looks absolutely fantastic!
I wish I was at this birfday dinner! GEEZ!
This is perfect for July 4th weekend! Definitely making this for our party.
OH HELLO! Holy cow this is some crazy beautiful sangria Steph. LOVE!!!!
Oh my gosh – this is genius. I made a Rosé stone fruit sangria with some bubbly water and it was really good, but wow adding star anise and cinnamon stick? That sounds so good!! I would never have though of that – but I can imagine what depth must be added to this sangria. Love it, Stephanie!
Always great to have a good panty dropper recipe in the arsenal!
What sort of sparkling citrus juice do you use? I think it and the Prosecco probably have enough sugar, so I plan to sub the sugar with a couple of packets of Stevia. Thanks!
i used orangina :)
Hello, i really appreciate this one. Thanks for the recipe!
