Tomato Basil Bufala Salad Recipe

Posted March 23, 2012 by Stephanie

Buffalo are a great source of entertainment for me. They are giant and fuzzy, their milk makes awesome cheese, and you can go around saying “Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.”

What you say? Why would you go around saying buffalo over and over again? Because: Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo is a perfectly grammatically valid sentence! There are three types of Buffalo: the city, Buffalo, New York; buffalo, the verb to bully; and buffalo, the animal. What the sentence is really saying is: Buffalo-origin bison that other Buffalo bison intimidate, themselves bully Buffalo bison.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it extremely amusing that you can go around saying “Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo” and be making perfect sense?

Buffalo aside, I had the best ever version of this salad in Rome at a tiny, no-nonsense cafe that only serves produce from the Provincia Di Roma. Tomato basil bufala salads are quite unassuming, but with quality ingredients, they explode with flavour. This salad is a trifecta of deliciousness!

What a fantastic food blog! I like to add a bit of balsamic vinegar to my tomato, mozzarella and basil salads. I like to keep some basil growing in a sunny window indoors or outside on the patio to use in salads and other recipes because it’s so fresh.
