Friday Finds: 5.13.16

Woah, didn’t even realize it was Friday the 13th until writing up the title of this post! Are you guys superstitious at all? I’m not particularly, in regards to the 13th, but sometimes the idea of it freaks me out. And to be honest, it does seem like people get kinda strange on the Friday the 13ths.

The 13th aside, did you guys have a good week? Mike and I have been trying to achieve more of a work life balance. It’s so easy to fall into working all the time when you work from home. Instead of leaving everything at the office, sometimes you find yourself, at 11 pm, staring at that blue computer screen working instead of relaxing. So, in that vein, we went on a spontaneous mini golf date that ended up in a search for a lost ball.¬†Highlights were: a hole in one(!!!), a 15 minute search for a missing ball and subsequently finding two other balls, and free freezies at the end of our game. It was a good day and I’m hoping the weekend is going to be just as good :)

Webstuff:

  1. Can you imagine your whole life being a lie?
  2. Hmm…maybe I shouldn’t have that second dessert?
  3. The rich against the richer…true first world problems.
  4. I’m really obsessed with mangos and these sound amazing. We regularly get Alphonso in Vancouver but I’ve never seen Kesar.
  5. A long read on high heels.
  6. I don’t hate the new insta logo. And I really really like the new interface!

Link Love:

  1. I’m all about the onigirazu!
  2. I love soft squishy chocolate cookies.
  3. I’d be down for some taco pasta shells.

I’ve got my eyes on you:

  1. We’re planning on camping this summer so I’ve been looking at camp stoves. This one seems like it’s the most common but I have no idea if it’s good or not.
  2. Thinking a nice Hudson’s Bay blanket might be a good thing to wrap up in next to the fire.

Wishing you a potato salad filled weekend!
xoxo steph

PS – If you have any camp gear you’re in love with, please let me know about it!

How many people are you planning to cook for? If you don’t need two burners, there are smaller options available. But, yes, that Coleman propane stove you link is a solid stove. You can go up in price and get a dual-fuel (white gas or unleaded gas) and not have to deal with the propane tanks. But for occasional use, propane is fine. I do find holding a low simmer on a camp stove is next to impossible. So prepare to us med-high to high-heat cooking.

That noodle bowl looks delicious! We contemplated getting the camp stove you linked to but ultimately ended up with a Coleman Powerpack Propane Stove. It’s only one burner but it’s much easier to pack and store, I’m all for things taking up less space! We also really love our eno hammock and are contemplating purchasing a KAISR inflatable couch so we don’t have to tote our massive camp chairs along with us.

if you ever plan a Indian holiday.pls do durin this time..the mangoes and jackfruits in season are to die for..forget alfonso and kesar, there are countless other varieties that’ll leave you hungry for more..i look forward to them every single year..nothing brings more joy than sucking the juicy pulp right out of its skin with all the juices dripping down your arm and then likcing those juices!!! definitely not pretty but who the hell cares when its something you can do only for 3 months in a year!

This is one of my favorite camping accessories: http://snowpeak.com/products/mini-hozuki?variant=671079897. Having easily accessible light in the tent feels like a luxury, especially when changing at night or getting dressed in the morning darkness for a very early hike :) I so strongly recommend it.

Also, if you’re looking to invest, Yeti coolers cannot be beat. Ice will keep for days!

  5. re: camping… Eno hammocks are the BESTTTTT!!! But really, all you need is a fire and mallows and chocolate and grams to have a successful camp trip.

I also recommend the Snow Peak stove mentioned below. Not sure how experienced you are with camping, but that Coleman one is humongous and looks incredibly heavy to carry. Depends on the size of your pack and how far you’re hiking each day though.

You’re going camping? You and Mike are relationship goals… just sayin’. And mini golf!? So so so cute. Thanks for the link love and for turning me onto onigirazu!!! xo

Finally Friday Finds!!! This is one of my favorite Internet foodie indulgences – please add it back into your regularly scheduled programming :)

    Webber Q Boom!

Can you do a camp gear post once you have it all sorted out? I am looking to actually buy some gear of my own this year.

I always love your Friday round ups!

Regarding the camp stove, I bought the Coleman Triton stove last summer and it’s been totally awesome. We bought the GSI Destination Kitchen and Bugaboo Camper sets to go with it. Camp cooking has been amazing since we invested in all that stuff, I especially love the GSI products because they’re so colorful!

  12. Ooohhh! That’s a really cool camp stove! I’m not too experienced with cooking in the sense that I haven’t done everything MYSELF, from setting up the tent myself and cooking alone, because usually our group who’s experienced does that for us (Filipino group so you know we eat well), but that stove looks really good and I think I’d camp more if I owned it. ;) hehehe.

And if I may go on a mini rant here….ahhhhh one thing I do not like is when people (especially in spoiled america) become so entitled to everything and HAVE to have an opinion on “i don’t like the design, change it back, the blah blah” when it’s a FREE APP! And really, it is just an app, after all. 0_0 Like you, I personally think the logo isn’t bad at all. It’s alright and doesn’t show anything offensive, and the interface?!!! SO MUCH BETTER! I’ve noticed tiny nuances in everyone’s photography due to the clean and minimal template, truly putting emphasis on the photos without distractions from complicated colors. Phew…lol, thank you for reading and actually being positive on the app. I guess people’s entitlements have been getting to me lately. Am I the only one? ^_^”
