Friday Finds: 3.20.15

Posted March 20, 2015 by Stephanie

Ohmygosh, this week was rough. I had the worst flu – I was so stuffed up I lost my sense of taste. I ate three Ferrero Rochers in a row, convinced with each consecutive chocolate that I would be able to taste again. No go. But, I’m on the mend now so soon ALL the Ferrero Rochers will be eaten (and tasted). I’m really looking forward to the weekend now that my tastebuds aren’t wacky anymore. Do you guys have any big plans?

Webstuff:
1. Korea loves plastic surgery.
2. Life can be so fragile.
3. Do you use TripAdvisor when planning a trip? It’s changing the way we travel.
4. I wish Cookie Monster was my life coach.
5. Japan and the power of cool.
6. Disney scares and thrills me.

Link Love:
1. These lemon meringue ice cream sandwiches!
2. Double tahini cupcakes.
3. Matcha mint chip ice cream – gorgeously photographed.
4. Uni grits and crispy prosciutto.

I’ve got my eyes on you:
1. Mike and I are about to bite the bullet on one of these chandeliers (Orbit 35) but we can’t decide between black, white, or bronze. We’re leaning towards black, but bronze is lovely too…and white is super fresh. Thoughts?
2. I’m really into one-pieces these days and this one (in the floral pattern) is so lovely!
3. Bring on all the pastel pink nails for Spring!
4. Do you guys use dry shampoo? Looking for a good one – do you guys have a fave?

Happy Spring! Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend!
love & potatoes,
xoxo Steph

Hi, ooh chandeliers are gorgeous. I guess it depends on your furniture/flooring/door handles etc but I love the bronze one – although it would be a close second with white! Sorry you’ve not been well hope you’re on the mend now? Ferrero’s – is the a better incentive for getting better??? I think not

  2. Diana says:

my vote is bronze bronze bronze

  3. If your looking for good dry shampoo, consider your hair behaviour. If it is prone to get tangle and oily easy look for one that is made for dark oily hair. Some times the dry shampoo can look like white flakes in dark hair. My fave is called Cedel which make one for dark hair too.
    Love the links!

  5. Ashlae says:

  6. taryn says:

i hope you feel better soon!
i love batiste dry shampoo. i’ve tried about 10 different brands ranging from cheap to high end and this has worked the best. they have a formula for dark hair as well. my next favorite one is oscar blandi’s powder form one.

  7. cynthia says:

ahh so glad that you’re feeling better steph!!! the flu is the worst :(:( (also i def go around eating tons of things hoping i’ll taste it at some point too! haha. but good news is calories don’t count when you’re sick! science.) also, (1) omg tripadvisor rabbit holes when planning trips!! so fun but so..rabbit hole @_@ (2) those chandeliers are SO gorgeous, all of them! and and (3) i LOVE batiste!!!!!! i’ve tried a couple diff dry shampoos and that one is def my fav.

love your friday links so much!!

  8. Well, firstly, thanks so much for sharing my uni grits, Stephanie!! You made my day :) Now onto the more important things like being sick. I agree entirely with Cynthia–the good news is that calories don’t count when you’re sick so you can eat nine bowls of ramen in the name of “but it’s got the good broth-y stuff” and you won’t gain a pound. Have a bowl for me while you’re at it. Also, I used to always lose my taste when I got sick, thinking it was because I was stuffed up, but then realized it was actually some weird reaction that I have to things like Mucinex and Sudafed. So now I just suffer through the cold without the meds–it sucks but at least I don’t lose my taste, which, as you seem to agree, is the absolute worst part! I’m sorry you’re going through that right now!! For the chandeliers, those are AMAZING. I love, love, love the white one if you have dark/bold-colored walls, but I also think the other colors are cool. And my hair stylist just gave me a dry shampoo to sample yesterday, but I haven’t tried it. If I love it, I’ll report back ;) Feel better!

  9. Sophie says:

TripAdvisor is CRAZY! It’s fun to compare our experience at a place to what I read before we arrive :) Glad you’re feeling better, Steph! It really takes the fun out of cooking when one cannot taste :( Sad story!

Dry shampoo: I use it all the time. I have fine hair that I don’t want to wash every day, but I also want some added volume. But I don’t want my hair to feel like straw!! I have tried so many bottles, from cheap to spendy, and I like Umberto the most so far ($10 at Target). Firstly, I hate how some brands have such strong scents. I don’t want perfumes, I just want clean-looking 3rd-day hair! Secondly, it lifts and takes care of oils without turning my hair dry and brittle as some can. It’s pretty bomb and there’s almost no smell to it. Good luck!

  10. Amanda Vuu says:

Hey girl! I have the best dry shampoo that I tell alllll my friends about. It’s by Oscar Blandi and it’s amazing. Works really well in dark hair too. Sounds gross, but I don’t wash my hair for sometimes 4-5 days and have great volume. Good luck!

  11. Abby says:

I hope you feel better, Stephanie!! xx

  12. Oh girl. I’ve been on a mad dry shampoo rampage lately. I literally bought 8 different kinds in a month. My faves are Batiste original and Aveeno–I think both smell good and work really well. I don’t mind the Herbal Essence, Dove, or Toni & Guy… they all smell good, but I find they don’t seem to be as long lasting/work as well as the first two. I very much dislike the “not your mothers” brand. I also like the powdered Lulu Organics, but I think it’s less of an every day use. And it smells (good, but strong).

  13. Tom says:

Bronze is really class. White is a bit Christmassy!

  14. maren says:

my fav dry shampoo is cheap-o suave! i have dark hair so i apply before i go to bed – by the time i wake up, it’s no longer white and is distributed evenly!

  15. Chrissy says:

I tried dried shampoo for the Inca Trail and I felt like it was just hair spraying my hair “clean.” If you get a good recommendation, please share!

  16. Lynn says:

Adding another vote for the bronze!

  17. Alana says:

Oh man, I so thought I commented but I guess I got distracted!! The Korean plastic surgery story totally got me thinking about another story my mom just told me about regarding a businessman and a divorce that I’ll have to tell you about one of these days. Your Friday links are the best cause they always get me thinking!! P.s. those ice creams and that UNI!! And regarding dry shampoos: Rene Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo!! The best.

  18. I don’t like the spray dry shampoos they don’t seem to work quite as well. The Oscar Blandi and Klorane powder ones are probably my favorites, although I hear the Sachajuan one is great too!

  19. Jonathan Melendez says:

Hope you feel 100% really soon, Steph! P.S. Dove’s dry shampoo is one of the best. Smells great, and works perfectly!

  20. Marissa says:

So glad you’re feeling better, Stephanie!

As for dry shampoo, I believe that I’ve tried them all. :) My hands-down favorite is Kenra Platinum dry shampoo.

  21. Hope you’re feeling better! Love love love those chandeliers! Black is my personal favorite :)

  22. Danielle says:

My favorite dry shampoo is the Amika Perk Up, and the Oscar Blandi one is a close second.

  23. Megan says:

Batiste is the best dry shampoo I have tried! I use it all the time. :)

  24. Emma says:

Dove Dry Shampoo! I’ve tried ’em all and this is the best. Smells amazing and texturizes my hair really nicely. All my friends (very different hair types all around) all use it too.

  25. Katherine says:

Amika and Klorane make the BEST dry shampoos. I’ve been using Klorane for the past year and I love how it doesn’t 1) smell weird 2) make my hair look gray and flat 3) cost an arm and a leg.
